It is a 33x28cm tray that is placed in the hive under the frames and serves to check or control the amount of varroa that has fallen after a treatment against it.
It is a safe control since the bees cannot remove the dead varroa out of the hive since the tray has a lid with grids.
It is recommended to add a little petroleum jelly in the tray so that the varroa mites will stick.
Depending on the varroa that our tray collects, we will know how effective or not the treatment has been.
It is also valid to put a sponge-type cloth on the tray and soak with 60% formic acid with an approximate dosage of about 3ml per frame of bees.
With this, the formic acid vapors increase the acidity of the interior environment of the hive which kills many varroa mites, this should always be done with mild temperatures.
